As part of the development of the SEE-GEO eSocialScience demonstrator, EDINA committed to assessing the performance of OGSA-DAI (Open Grid Services Architecture – Data Access and Integration).
OGSA-DAI is a middleware product that allows a variety of data resources to be accessed via web services. It provides mechanisms for querying, updating, transforming and delivering data. For more information, see the OGSA-DAI website.
SEE-GEO has created several new OGSA-DAI activities that allow Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) web services, eg, Web Feature Service, Web Coverage Service, to be accessed from OGSA-DAI. Some of these have been employed in the eSocialScience demonstrator to create an OGC Web Processing Service which 'geolinks' UK census boundaries with census statistics. See the SEE-GEO poster for more details.
EDINA assessed the performance of OGSA-DAI by examining changes in response times and memory usage with increasing volumes of data - see the summary benchmark report. More details can be provided by EDINA on request.
