Discovery to Delivery at EDINA and Mimas
Discovery to Delivery at EDINA and Mimas was a collaborative project between the two National Data Centres (NDCs). Users were able to discover resources on the existing Copac and SUNCAT services and then access a table of contents service (Zetoc) as well as be presented with a series of options that linked to systems and services offering Interlibrary Lending, licensed electronic resources, free resources and pay to view resources.
It responded to the proposal put forth by JISC, RLUK and the BL that requested projects where discovery services could work together effectively as pieces of the UK e-infrastructure to help to provide seamless access and delivery. The approach was to divide the Project into four distinct, although interrelated, work areas. Each of these work areas was led by a member of staff from one of the National Data Centres (NDCs) but there was input from staff from each of the NDCs into all the work areas. Teams at both NDCs reported to a local project manager, who coordinated NDC collaboration, communications and reporting.
The work areas were:
Mimas staff took primary responsibility for work areas 2 and 3 and EDINA staff for work areas 1 and 4.
Within each of the work areas there were a number of work packages that were based on coherent groupings of tasks.
The key deliverables were:
