Glossary

  • Peer review: A peer review is when fellow experts approve an article for being based on reliable, accurate and innovative work before it is published in a journal. Usually associated with traditional, paper-based journals, peer review is increasingly being applied to Internet publications.
  • Abstracts: Abstracts are often published as part of a journal article, and provide a summary of the content of the article that is usually one or two paragraphs long.
  • Periodical: A periodical is a regularly released publication, such as a journal. Usually published more than once a year, and sometimes also referred to as a "serial".
  • Citations database: A citation database provides you with a way to search for articles that have referenced (cited) a particular author's work.
